Balmoral Castle

It takes about an hour to drive north to The Royal Family's Scottish home

Balmoral is worth visiting at any time of the year, apart from two weeks in late summer when the Royal Family come north for their holidays.  That time coincides with the Braemar Gathering, a Highland Games, which annually has a Royal presence.  That occurs at the start of September each year.

The castle itself is A-listed and was completed in 1856.  It is surrounded by the Balmoral Estate which is about 50,000 acres in size and is managed as a working estate with grouse moors and deer stalking.
